Refund estimate

Get a rough idea of what you're owed

A rough guide to help you decide whether a claim's worth your time.

This is a rough estimate only — not a quote, and not your actual refund. It's here to help you decide whether a claim is worth your time. Nothing you enter here is saved or used in your claim.

First — can you claim?

Travel relief generally applies to a temporary posting, not your permanent base.

Was this posting expected to last under 24 months when it started?
Do you keep a main home elsewhere that you return to?
Was this a ship / sea posting?
2022/23 must be claimed by 5 April 2027.
Meals
The roughest line of all — only food you paid for on duty and weren't reimbursed for.
Travel — add any that apply

Home-to-base travel for a temporary posting. Your normal commute to a permanent base doesn't count.

Did the MOD reimburse your mileage (MMA)? Relief is the gap up to HMRC's approved rate, after any MMA you received.
The weakest line — it needs strong justification, so we treat it cautiously.
Other unreimbursed work costs
Uniform upkeep is usually already in your tax code — only count what you spend above it.
